Medicine is not only a science; it is also an art. It does not consist of compounding pills and plasters; it deals with the very processes of life, which must be understood before they may be guided.     ~Paracelsus

Classical Chinese Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine

Many people know of the efficacy and benefits of acupuncture.  For me, Chinese Medicine--Acupuncture and Chinese herbs combined--goes beyond simple stress relief and pain management, providing a complete, and sometimes seemingly miraculous, system of medicine that treats each person as a whole.

The use of herbs as medicine is the medical standard in Asia, and Chinese Herbs are the heart of my practice here in Portland.  I have mentored extensively with Arnaud Versluys, founder of the Institute for Canonical East Asian Medicine, immersing myself in a lineage of classical herbal medicine that dates back to the Eastern Han Dynasty (approx. 2000 years ago).

The system I have learned creates a beautiful, elegant, precise process of diagnosis and prescription that allows me to treat health conditions with a depth and precision that is uncommon in the modern practice of Chinese medicine.

Throughout my life, I've been struck by the disconnect between art and science.  With Chinese Medicine, I found a medical science rooted in the beauty and elegance of nature, and the possibility of putting intellectual knowledge at the service of creativity and beauty.

Whether I am working with a patient with a head cold, or someone struggling with chronic pain, I am constantly awed and humbled by the depth of this medicine.  The ancient wisdom of Chinese Medicine offers a unique and invaluable opportunity for true health and healing.

                  About Kjell ("Chell")

As the son of a small-town family practice doctor, I have always had a deep respect for the role that the physician plays in the healing process of each individual patient.  Through my studies in philosophy at Willamette University, I began seeking for my own healing and purpose, and to understand the world around me.  This led to a journey of discovering the beauty of Asian spirituality, culture, and religion, and then to the art of Chinese Medicine, something which combines perfectly my calling to help and heal with my deep love and respect for nature and the mysteries of life.
